You may need urgent treatment if you have:

  • Toothache or swelling that suggests an infection of a tooth or gum
  • Severe toothache or facial pain which is not controlled by taking over-the-counter painkillers
  • Trauma of the face, mouth or teeth after a recent accident or injury
  • A permanent tooth being knocked out
  • Bleeding after tooth extraction that you cannot control
  • Serious swelling of the mouth or face which is getting worse

Crowns

Crowns are used to restore a tooth when it is damaged or unsightly. They can give a dramatic improvement to your smile!

A crown (also known as a ‘cap’) is a protective cover fitted over the existing structure of a broken or damaged tooth to restore function and appearance. All-ceramic crowns are proven to be as strong and durable as metal porcelain crowns and so we are able to offer patients the best of both worlds – a long lasting and natural looking solution.

What is a Crown

Crowns can be the ideal treatment option for the following dental situations:

  • To restore badly broken teeth
  • To restore teeth that have been heavily filled and become weak
  • To reshape, an uneven or unsightly tooth to match your surrounding teeth
  • To restore the brightness to discoloured teeth
  • To protect a root treated tooth
  • You have a bridge or denture which needs to be held in place
  • To replace an old crown that no longer fits very well or that has become discoloured≈

Dental Hygiene appointments

We recommend dental hygiene appointments at least every six months with our professional hygienist.  Over time plaque builds up and causes gum disease which happens when the bacteria in plaque attacks our gums below the surface to make them red and inflamed. This is one of the most common causes of Gum diseases and tooth loss.

We want to play an important part in reducing these health problems with your dental hygiene appointment, which will include the following:

  • A gentle yet thorough clean of your teeth to remove the build-up of harmful plaque
  • Removal of odour causing bacteria for a fresh breath
  • Air polish to remove any light stains for a sparkling clean smile
  • Soft tissue checks to ensure healthy gums
  • Advice on how to effectively brush and floss your teeth

dental hygiene routine

The perfect dental hygiene routine

It’s important to look after your teeth and gums in between appointments with your hygienist. Practice this simple dental care routine each day, and you’ll find it easy to reach optimum dental health:

  • Brush your teeth at least twice a day with a fluoride toothpaste, focusing on each tooth as you clean
  • An electric toothbrush can be used for an even more thorough clean
  • After brushing spit but do not rinse. Rinse your mouth once or twice a day (not after brushing)
  • Floss once a day to remove plaque and tartar stuck in between your teeth
  • Debris and bacteria lingering on your tongue can be removed with a tongue scraper

dentures

Loss of teeth can cause all sorts of problems eating speaking and laughing.

At Matchborough Dental Practice we can replace one, several or all of your missing teeth, to help you get your confidence back

It can take some time to get used to your new dentures, especially if you have a complete set. They may feel strange at first and make eating and speaking difficult, but with time, they will soon feel fine and function as your normal teeth.

Replacing Missing Teeth

The benefits of treatment

  • Natural-looking
  • Facial shape enhancing
  • Can improve how you eat and speak
  • Cost-effective

Our dentures are designed to be long-lasting, but they still need looking after to prevent breakage and keep them gleaming. Store them in water or denture fluid while you sleep, so they keep their shape, and brush daily to remove food debris.

long lasting Dentures

Dentures are removable plates or false teeth. They are usually supported by the gum and
the bone underneath but they can also be supported by the remaining teeth in the mouth.

ROOT CANAL TREATMENT
-

Endodontics (root canal treatment)
This procedure aims to eliminate the infection within the tooth roots that normally lead to throbbing aches, abscesses and swellings. During this procedure the inside of the tooth is opened up and the bacteria causing the infection are cleaned out and the root canal is
disinfected and filled. When properly done they carry high success rate.

Root filled teeth are generally structurally weaker and more brittle. For back teeth crowning
can protect these teeth and is highly recommended

Why Root Canal Treatment is needed

The infection at the centre of a tooth (the root canal) is caused by bacteria that live in the mouth and invade the tooth.
This can happen after:
– Tooth decay
– leaky fillings
– damage to teeth as a result of trauma, such as a fall

When root canal treatment is needed

Root canal treatment is only required when dental X-rays show that the pulp has been damaged by a bacterial infection.

The pulp will begin to die if it’s infected by bacteria, allowing the bacteria to then multiply and spread.

TEETH WHITENING

Teeth whitening is a process of removing stains and discolouration from teeth through a bleaching process to make them look “whiter” or brighter.

It has become a common and routine dental procedure to improve the colour of teeth without having to damage the teeth with crowns or veneers. We also offer professional home whitening kits. This takes about 3-4 weeks

teeth whitening permanent?

Teeth whitening is not permanent. It can last from a few months to up to 3 years. it varies from person to person.

The whitening effect won’t last as long if you smoke or drink red wine, tea or coffee, which can all stain your teeth.

How do I find out

How do I find out about getting my teeth whitened?
We will advise you whether whitening is right for you. It may be that teeth whitening isn’t suitable, for example if you have gum disease or crowns.
